How Your Daily Habits Can Reveal the Perfect Job for You
After four career changes in seven years, I’ve learned one truth: your ideal job matches how you already live. Here's how to find it.

Hey there, it’s Jill!
Are you feeling unfulfilled in your current role? Do you ever wonder what kind of job you'd absolutely thrive in? If you’ve taken countless personality and career assessments but still feel lost, you’re not alone.
I’ve been there, too. After making four career transitions in seven years (what a ride!), I want to share with you a realization that changed everything for me.
Before we dive in, if you haven’t yet, feel free to subscribe to my newsletter for practical, personal insights on career growth and self-discovery. Only the most thoughtful ideas make it into your inbox.
Now let’s begin.✨
If I had to sum up everything I’ve learned in one sentence, it would be this:
The most suitable job is aligned with how you naturally interact with the world
Think about how you move through your day—the choices you make, the way you plan, what energizes you. Here are a few examples:
You love planning every detail of a trip and sticking to the itinerary.
→ You’d thrive in a structured role with clear timelines, processes, and defined deliverables. It’s Saturday morning. A friend invites you out, but you already made plans and kindly decline.
→ You likely value autonomy and ownership. Roles that require you to take initiative and lead are a better match than purely supportive positions. You host a big birthday party every year and love bringing people together.
→ You might shine in roles that involve coordination, communication, and working with people—perhaps project management, event planning, or client-facing roles. You love drawing, pottery, or browsing home decor shops.
→ Creativity matters to you. You’d find joy in roles with room for aesthetic expression—think UX/UI design, marketing, branding, or product development.
The clues are already within you. All you have to do is reflect on your habits and how you naturally respond to the world. These insights are more accurate than any test—and they’re uniquely yours.
Real-Life Story: From Burnout to Breakthrough

Let me tell you about a friend of mine. She has an incredible eye for style—always dressed impeccably, effortlessly elegant. Her travel photos? Straight out of a magazine.
But at the time, she worked as an accountant in a finance department, producing reports and reconciling numbers. It was repetitive, deadline-driven, and left little space for creativity. Over time, the work drained her.
Eventually, she made the bold decision to quit.
During her gap year, she took design courses, built a portfolio, and gradually explored a different side of herself. Nine months later, she started job hunting again—and this time, landed a role as a web designer at an e-commerce company.
Now, she gets to bring her creativity to life every day—and she loves it!
What if you don’t know whether such job exist?
That’s completely normal! Here are two ways to uncover the right fit:
Network Broadly
Talk to people in different roles and industries. You’ll often find jobs you never even knew existed that align surprisingly well with your natural strengths. (Need tips? Check out my previous post on how to network effectively.)Expand Your Competence Circle
The “perfect job” often lies at the intersection of three things: what you're good at, what you enjoy, and what the job requires. While the job’s demands are fixed, you can grow your skills to create more overlap. As your competence grows, so do your options.
Inner Peace
Finding the right career path isn’t a sprint—it’s a journey of learning, trying and growing. It might take a few years, even a decade, to fully understand your strengths and how they translate into meaningful work.
Start by understanding how you think, create, lead, and connect, then gather information about what’s out there. The more clearly you see both yourself and the world, the easier it becomes to find a genuine fit.
Trust the process. You've got this.
